I bought a car 5 months ago from ** dealership ** in New Whiteland, Indiana. I bought the car from David and Steve. After some extensive investigating I found out that David was part owner and Steve was just a Salesman there. Here's the question, is it legal when apparently ** dealership iis bankrupt but 2 of the employees from that bankrupt company has reopened in the same location but under a different name. I as well as others don't have a title to the cars we purchased but these to guys are doing business a usual. How is that even possible. And obviously it's possible but is it legal.

A car salesman must be licensed to sell cars. Would highly suggest you contact the State Licensing Department and report their activities. They may be able to help you get the title to your vehicle as well. Good luck.

When companies go under there is nothing to stop owners or employeees from starting a new business in the same location. You have not given us much info regarding the title. Was it titled to Safari and now the bank has title or what, this would then be fraud, time for the sheriff to saddle up.

First you said they appeared to be bankrupt. Well are they are are they not. Did they officially file in Federal court and go bankrupt. And if they did, what form did they go, one method allows them to reorganise, the other gets rid of their debt.
But yes, it is actually common for a business to go bankrupt and the owners reopen a new business right away. I know one that was in the salvage business and closed and reopened at least 4 times.
If they bought autos they are not suppose to sell them until they have the title.
Now this sadly is also not uncommon, many used car lots buy at auction and don't get titles for a week or two, but put cars up for sell.
But who holds the title or more title info
