It has been trimmed, even by me,with a dremmel tool.

It has been broken and reinforced with wire meshing, inside the acrylic.

I can eat,and while I chew I can keep from gaging, but as soon as I stop swallowing/chewing for a short time(a few seconds) the gag effect takes over and I have to remove them.

Been like this for a few months, first thought was allergies/post nasal drip, but now its wintertime, the allergies should be over and done with.

I do smoke, and my nervous disorder(being manic/depressed,mostly manic of late) I seem to be smoking fast, like finishing a lot faster than normal,is this causing the hairs in the back of the throat to be tickled or shortened to the point that the sensitivity of even a slight pressure(closeness of denture to the top/back of the mouth)is making me gag,or could the denture just need further trimming?

I have trimmed till I reached the metal mesh reinforcement and don't think I want to do any more on my own.

What "hairs" are you talking about at the back of your throat? Are you talking about hairy tongue? Have you considered having implants done and get rid of the denture completely?

Maybe 'hairs' wasn't the best description, the idea of something bothering the throat is like a tickle, kind of like a hair caught on your throat.

OK,implants done, yes,no,cost is always an issue.

Have you been wearing an upper denture for some time now? Is your gag something new? Perhaps you should have a thorough oral cancer screening, something may have changed in the tissues making your denture fit differently. Find an office that has a "VELscope".
