I received a letter saying that I owe $323 from the taxes I just did this year(I didn't do my taxes until July, and then I had to get them amended in August for student loan purposes). I'm broke so I don't even have that, but the letter says they can do a lien. Will they really put a lien on me for $323? And if they will would they really do it this soon? I don't own anything except my 1998 Nissan Sentra.

Yes, they CAN put a lien on your car for $323.

Whether they will or not remains to be seen.

You CAN set up a payment plan, though the $75 set-up fee seems a bit much given the amount owed.

If you have a credit card with enough credit space, you can take a cash advance, buy a money order and pay the tax bill. Owing the money to a credit card company is MUCH better than owing the IRS, because the credit card company will NOT attempt to garnish your wages, while the IRS will.

Contact the IRS and explain your situation. They may be willing to put the collection on hold until you can get a job to earn the money to pay them off.

Under no circumstances should you ignore the problem, as it will only get worse, not better.
