Hello,

The blower on my furnace doesn't always start. After the burners run for several seconds, I hear a click noise (from the relay?) every time but then the blower doesn't always start up and eventually the whole thing turns off for a few minutes. Sometimes it works perfectly fine. Also, the blower starts every time I turn it on manually (so at least I'm able to heat my house).

I'm thinking of replacing the fan control module but it's not cheap so any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Some info:
Kenmore natural gas furnace (approximately 10 years old).
Heatcraft fan control module.

The control you mentioned does control the fan with a built in relay and if you hear the click of that relay and the fan does not run that is the problem. Since the blower motor operates on manual it seems that the motor itself is not the problem.

If this is a capacitor start motor it could be a bad capacitor. The capacitor is very cheap and would be worth buying one just to see if that is the problem. Make sure you buy one that is the same as what is there now.

Thank you for the replies.

If it were just the capacitor, I'm guessing I would have problems starting the blower manually (which is currently how I'm heating the place). Correct me if I'm wrong here.

If it is the fan control module, is there any likely hood of repairing it? Would removing it and cleaning it do anything?

It is not the capacitor in your case but a defective capacitor can cause motor problems.

The fan control modual contains many parts that are usually not available at a local Radio Shack so usually you are out of luck when it comes to a repair. Replacement is usually the only possibility.

My sons furnace failed today, the fan motor wouldn't run in auto but would run manual, I pulled the fan relay out (ftc5-eh01) & removed the back , I found (4) bad solder joints on the PC board. I soldered all (4) joints & that took care of the problem.

Also looking for a replacement for this poorly made part: HeatCraft model FTC5-EHO1 or HeatCraft model FTC5-EH01.

Does anyone have a source?

I have a similar problem.

The furnace start fine but not the fan. After 3 minutes heating the unit turn off itself and the fan start working for 30 second and the goes off.

A workaround (mikey mouse) I found is doing a bridge between the 1st contact and the 5th one (starting from the right) -see pic:

This way the unit works fine the whole day.

But... if I want to use the Air Conditiones cooler, I need to restore the connection to its original configuration.

Any recommendation about replacing the fan module HeatCraft model FTC5-EHO1 or/and the capacitor (see pic: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ocr5ondkigq4yap/Capacitor-1.JPG?m )

Also, I can find any place to buy those replacement parts (ebay, Google, etc.)

Thanks so much for any advice!
