I'm trying to swap out the old ceiling fan in my living room and the metal box in the ceiling only has 1 white wire and 1 black wire. No ground, no screw, no clip. So what do I do with the ground wire from the fan? There is also no ground screw on the bracket. I have installed ceiling fans in the past but this has me stumped. Thanks for your help!

The metal box is the ground. The fan's mounting bracket is metal and also grounded, so you're covered.

What are you doing with the old fan you are swapping out?

Hi, I went to the hardware store and they told me the same thing so I finished installing it that night. I threw the other fan out. It was very ugly and out dated. The blades were peeling (I think they painted it to make it look better when they sold this house) and it made a humming noise from time to time. Thanks for your response,I will keep this site in mind as we have a lot of remodeling to do.

Ok. I am on occasion interested in old, ugly, out of date fans even if they have issues. In the future, please don't throw them out :)
