I'm moving away from clamp-on shrader valves (considered temporary and leaky) and moving to sweated valves and would like to know if Oxy/acetyne combo is the way to go for this. Brazing, right?
I've tried mapp gas but it seems to not heat enough, even though I haven't tried the "cup" that goes on the tip and retains heat.
All of the connections I see on units are brazed, so shouldn't I continue?
Is Sil-Fos good because of no need for flux?
Any suggestions will be helpful.

I use 15% Sil Fos and I use Acetyline and Oxygen to heat with. I have tried the small hand held propane torches and they work on 3/8's stuff but for 3/4 and 7/8's they it just does not get hot enough. And if you did get it hot enough to melt it would not flow and could leave a leak. And also all the heat you would have applied would make every thing hot, might not be good for valves.

Thanks. I was trying 1/2. Where did you pick up your oxyacetylene kit?

I got mine at a local welding shop but I have seen them at Builders Square. Around $200 plus deposit on bottles.
