View Full Version : Weird tasting areolas?

Okay this is really embarrassing and I'm not really wanting to go to a doctor as yet. But I have noticed from about 2 years back that when my boyfriend would lick/suck my nipple/areola area there would be this weird taste in his mouth sometimes and I could taste it when he kissed me and I could smell it on his breath. I do practice good hygiene so I'm really puzzled. I used to always rub lotion on them but I stopped to see if it would help and it hasn't. And I don't think it's sweat because sweat tastes salty and this taste is different more of a bad after taste left in the mouth. I believe it is coming from the actual areola though, because when I wipe the area with water the taste goes away for about half a day. And even if there is no sucking just licking the area around the nipple the strange taste will be there. There is also no strong odour or anything coming from them on their own and I feel no out of the ordinary lumps or pain.

A little history:
I'm 21. I did become pregnant a couple months after becoming sexually active with him but lost the baby a couple months later. I can't remember if the taste started before I knew I was pregnant or not but it was present sometime in the beginning of our relationship (I haven't really been intimate with anyone besides him). I had a baby recently with him about 5 and a half months ago now and noticed the same taste/smell on baby's breath even while trying to breast feed. But he also hardly latched on. I guess I should note that I also had a horrible time trying to breastfeed. The milk was so hard to come out and it hurt and I eventually stopped when baby was 2 months because it was so difficult. And my milk has seemed to dry up on it's own.

I'm not sure if I've given enough information but I'd appreciate any help if possible.

Hey I'm a 23 year old female and I am having the same problem. I was wondering if you ever found any answers as to why we have these bad tasting nipples or if there is a cure for it.

I too have that problem. My gyno has no clue or reference to what it could be. This is the first time I have found anyone else with the problem. I've googled before a couple yrs ago and couldn't find anything. Glad I'm not the only one. I've tried rinsing with cold water at the end of my shower which I think might help a little. Ive also tried different soaps and nothing helps. I'm self conscious of it and always wash my breasts bfor sex with my most recent boyfriend and then I'm good but you can imagine what a pain that is. Has anyone found out anything recently of how to rid the problem?
