My partner has just come back from football and is coughing up blood.
He bounced off another player from his chest and now has been coughing up blood. He finds it hurts when he takes deep breaths and when really coughs a little blood comes up as when it happened there was loads of blood.

Can anyone tell me what this can be or if he should seek medical help.
He seems OK but only deeply breathing and then coughing is when it happens.

Thanks

If you have any unexplained coughing up of blood, call an ambulance or go to the nearest emergency department. This is very important if your cough produces large volumes of blood (more than a few teaspoons), or if you also have:

1. Dizziness
2. Light-headedness
3. Severe shortness of breath

This is not something to put off.

Will do if he becomes dizzy or light headed.
Do you know what the cause could be though from the bang on the chest, there were large volumes of blood but he seems fine now only little speaks in flem when he coughs he's having at the minute.

I didn't want to post more than what was needed in this particular situation. Whether he feels fine or not, being that there was definite contact with his chest I would still seek medical attention. I have no specialised medical training but I would strongly suggest a trip to the nearest ER.

Blunt force is the common cause of this type of symptom or injury.

That's brilliant ;)
I want to thank you for your help in this matter and will seek medical attentoin if the above does occur

Many thanks again x

Your quite welcome. Just remember there could be an internal underlining injury. Have him checked out regardless. Don't simply let this go untreated.

Good-Luck.

Coughing blood and pain when breathing are very serious problems. Don't wait for further symptoms, go to the ER!

Yes, you do not cough up blood and should have went to the ER the minute this happened.
