View Full Version : My Boss is acusing me of stealing?

I have been working for this company for almost 3 year, they have never had any problems out of me! For that fact I never cause any problems.
Well I get called in to a big room with cops and bosses, and they tell me that they see an unregular pattern with my cash register. They tell me that there is not possible way that I could have been doing that without stealing money. AND I WASN'T! They did manage to find 8 dollars in the back of the register! But I wasn't trying to steal it. The only thing that I'm not suppost to do there is to be on the phone or text, which I do! They have a camera far away from the cash register. But it is facing to us. I don't want them to "think" again that I was always looking under the counter and taking money when all I have been doing is texting.
I quit the job and I am waiting for them to call me back to see what is going to happen. I'm scared less because I have never been in trouble with anything having too deal with the cops and law.
I just turned 18 this year as will and I could possibly be charged as a adult.
What the hell is going to happen?
Other then that camera, they have nothing but there word to mine! :(
Please please help. I go back Monday Nov 17, 2008 (tomorrow)!!

Where do you have to go tomorrow? I thought you weren't charged - ? As far as going back to the store no one can force you to go back there.

If the camera shows something suspicious going on and they are missing money that's pretty much all the proof they need. You, of course, would tell the Judge your side (if you are arrested), they will tell their side, the Judge will determine if you are guilty or innocent.

Why did you quit? I'm sure you know that makes you look guilty.

Yes, and why did you quit ? If you are not guility you just say so.
You don't confess, don't let them scare you into anything. But since you quit, let them mail your check to you.

But yes you would most lkely be charged as a adult, this is common for people much younger.

I quit because I told them I'm not going to stay with a company that accuses me of stealing when I didn't and the only thing I did on camera is text on my phone. Other than that they have nothing on me. I'm just really pissed because its all over people making false shie that thiny think.
I just don't know what to do because I didn't do anything.

I didn't confess beucase I never did anything. I'm just worried because I never do anything wrong and I have never been in trouble with the law.
How can they charge me with nothing?

They aren't going to charge you with "nothing." They are going to charge you with theft from an employer based on what they see on the video and the missing money. Then you will explain and they will explain and a Judge will decide.

Again - you don't have to talk to them and the fact that you resigned makes you look somewhat guilty.

They haven't said anything yet and I will find out Monday! I hope it all goes well because I didn't do anything.

Not being guilty is not a defense, and I still am missing why you are going in to talk to someone.

Because they told me I have to come in to see if they are pressing charges, just bull . I don't know. I just know that I don't need anymore problems

I think going in is going to cause you more problems than you already have - why would you give your employer more info (and ammunition) than they already have? I don't know why you asked for advice when you continue to ignore it.

Do you think your employer is on your side or is trying to get you to make admissions to be used against you?

Also don't understand your "screen name" if you are innocent -

Yes the last thing you want to do is talk to anyone about this, Believe me innocent people are convicted every year or even confess because they are tricked or lyed to.

Lets say they tell you we have you on film and also have a witness but if you will do this... nothing will happen.
They can lie , even the police can lie to get you to confess.

I'm not ever going back to that place and never planned to. I resigned because I told them I will never work for a company that does things like this.
I'm just sick of this , and oh the person who asked me about the screen name. I did it because I was trying to make things OK... just trying to joke around to ease the scaring the out of me part.
I still don't know what's going on but I'm getting sick of waiting. I called back because I have to find out if they are going to charge me or make me pay for the money. The GM of the company told me that he was waiting on his boss to call him back, but told me I would find out soon. He told me that this has never happened to him.
The weird thing about it was he was crying with I told him I didn't do it and he said I did. Idont know why because I didn't do anything. The only thing I ever did wrong there was text on the phone

You were advised not to go back to your former employment only because you said you were going to -

Part of the legal system and punishment is the waiting. I would stop calling them.

Punishment is waiting? I never did anything! I just hate this is because they can always find somw way to make you look like you did something and you truly know in your heart that you didn't! It just really pisses me off that places would stoop to this level just to get money from someone or take someone's job.

I don't understand why they would accuse an innocent person, either. And, yes, they will make you twist in the wind for a while.

Do you have any idea how money disappeared or what proof they have - who else was working the register - ?

You never stated just how much money is involved that the employer is missing. That could really make a huge difference in what happens next.

I don't mean this wrong, could you just be a very bad cashier, giving wrong change to people.

I get a few every week that can not count change back.

Right now how much, I don't know but I could guess over or about 1,000. And I'm not a bad cashier I've been doing it and working there for almost 3 years. And not to be rude but I'm one of the best. I've noticed the company talking about shortages in stock, maybe they are doing it because they want money? I don't know. But I didn't do anything. I called and the GM said he was waiting to talk to his boss... and he never called back... im still left sitting... but I can't help to just think f*uck them now.

I am suspicious about the $8 "at the back of the register". If you "took" $8 every day for a week that would be $40+. Multiply that by 2 years and you'd be close to the figure you were mentioning. Why would you be texting someone constantly at your job? When you are at a jobsite you are supposed to be working! And the added security camera in your face didn't deter you from "texting". I'll never figure out this younger generation at this rate.

Suggest you speak to an attorney. I don't think the GM has to call you back either.

I don't know why you ask for advice when you don't follow it - you've been advised REPEATEDLY not to talk to your former employer and you continue to do so.

I'm sure the company isn't going through this for $1,000. I'm also sure money is missing, they think you took it, they may or may not have what they think is proof.

I have no idea why you quit and aren't consumed with righteous indignation - instead of worrying about what will happen next.

I have no idea what "$8 in the back of the register" means. I conduct bar surveillances frequently to determine if bartenders/wait persons are stealing from the owner and the "money in the back of the register" is NOT uncommon when money is being siphoned.

I find that your last sentence, "... I can't help to just think" says more about who you are than anything you have posted.

Judy is one smart cookie, err, investigator. She should know all the "tricks" when it comes to investigating where the money went. Many years ago I had a job as a cashier. At the end of my shift I had to close out my register and then make sure my drawer was in order according to all the sales I had that shift. Don't know how your employer closed out his registers and kept track of sales vs register receipts, but I know that it was very easy to be only $2 or less over or under and on the money 50% of the time. In one 8 hr shift alone I had several hundred sales to account for and I was only on the money 75% of the time or just a few cents either way.

And I get to sit in bars and actually get paid for it - another reason why I hate bars.
