I have a ceiling fan with lights in a bedroom , it has been there several years and worked fine. I cut on the light from the wall switch the other day and thought the bulb blew because of a very audible pop but it had actually thrown the breaker. I reset it and when you flip the wall switch it does it again, I removed the light bulbs, still does it. The fan will cut on and operate when you pull the chain. There has been no new fixtures added. Where could the problem be ?

There is a short somewhere in the wiring for the light. From the sound of it I think calling in an electrician is your safest bet.

Sounds like a short. I suggest flipping that breaker off, then taking the fan fixture apart. I bet there is either a pinched wire, or an incorrectly fastened wire nut, and a live wire is touching either the fan housing, or the electric box above the light in the ceiling.

I decided to replace the ceiling fan (outated anyway) with a light fixture.The box in the ceiling has 3 bundles in it each with one black,white, and copper ground wire. The 3 ground wires have a copper clamp around them .My new fixture has one black, white, ground wire. I hooked the fixture black to all 3 black in ceiling,all 3 whites in ceiling and all grounds to fixture ground wire. There is a single switch wall plate that goes to this, and I have it in the off position. When I cut the circuit breaker back on the light on the fixture comes on, if I flip the wall switch into the on position the breaker trips. This breaker also services the bathroom light and exhaust fan. The bathroom light and fan operate normally until I put the bedroom wall switch in the on position thus tripping the breaker. Do I need one less of the wire sets in the ceiling attached to my fixture? Do I need to run to the home store and grab a tester? Do I need to look at wall switch? Sorry for the length, I should have included more info in original post.

First of all, was it a remote fan?

Second of all, you didn't wire the new fan right, you should have wired it how the old fan was wired.
