I have a friend who was given copies of patient census report. The report included the patient name, rm # and payor source only. It did not include any health related information. My friend said that he needed the copies to show proof of a violation in the facility. He reported the information to an attorney. Is it a HIPPA violation to have the copies

Its not a HIPAA violation to have the copies, but the person who gave them to him may have violated HIPAA.

Just as a side issue, how did you friend get the copies? Who handed them over? That's the person who could have "issues."
