The whole time I am online, it sounds like something is literally running in the tower. My PC seems unusually slow. If there are programs running in the background, how can I stop them?

The first thing that I would check would be is to see if a CD or even a DVD is trying to play. It could be that simple. As far as stopping programs from running in the background, it would help to know what operating system you're running.

Right click on taskbar and click task mgr and then processes tab

Look through the list there and look to see if anything is taking most of the Mem Usage

Also, what is the CPU usage on the bottom of the task mgr
