Hi, When we run the washer in the basement the toilet upstairs bubbles (Big bubbles) and then releases a foul sewer smell. Also when we use the shower, the toilet bubbles also. Now when I flush the otilet all the water disappears. Is there a blockage in the basement where the washer drains? or the toilet or something wrong with the vent? Ive tried pouring hot water down the toilet and bath drain but to no avail. Ive also tried to snake the toilet, maybe I should try that again? Any ideas ? Thanks!

You have a blockage in the drainage system downstream from the washer. Let me explain. When your washer pump discharges it hits the obstruction and bounces back sending a bubble of sewer gas ahead of it. These are the bubbles that you see and smell in your toilet. You also seem to have a vent blockage that siphons the water out of your toilet bowl. You can rent a sewer machine and do the job yourself and If you just had one problem that would be my advice but I Think you're going to need out side help to sort this out. Good luck, n Tom
