Hello,

I verbally accepted a position with an insurance company. The agreement was pending a drug test and credit check. In the meantime I went to work for a different company. I never reported to work at the insurance company and then 3 or 4 weeks later I received a paycheck from the insurance company. Taxes were withheld and it was just like I was working for them except I never started work there. I have received 4 paychecks and am starting to wonder if this money is mine to keep. At the very least I will earn what interest that accrues until they catch this error. Do I have to pay the money back? After all, it does say Non-Negotiable all over the paystubs!

Thanks for any help you may provide.

If you aren't earning it its not yours. I would contact them and ask why you never got notice to report.

Non-negotiable "all over the paystubs" means that people try to cash the check and then try to cash the stub all the time and the company is trying to prevent that from happening. Has nothing to do with whether the checks are yours to keep.

Let's see, you didn't do any work for them and you wonder if the paychecks are yours to keep? Are you serious? I don't know what you signed or what they think you're doing (outside sales or something) but I think you're dancing around fraud.

I also sincerely hope this is NOT the company that writes my insurance!
