Ok so we have a male dachshund named Nickson who is the most sweet, loving, goofy dog in the world. Big paws, long ears, and he has a lower lip that makes him look like he is about to talk. Anyway, about a year and a half ago (or so maybe 2) he slipped a disk in his back and his back legs were paralyzed. We were told to put him to sleep or give him this $5,000 surgery, we did neither. We put him in his kennel for a few weeks, and gradually he got better. Now, he is almost completely better, except for a slightly funny movement in the way he walks. We have wanted to breed him for a long time, but haven't known if it was possible. He still gets "excited" -cough cough- and we know many people who would want a Nicky puppy if we bred him. Is it possible, or has his injury somehow affected his ability to breed? Please answer if you know anything.

Well if you didn't follow the advice when he got hurt (resulting in him not healing properly and now walking funny)... why would you follow our advice?

If you know "many people" who would want a puppy... have them check shelters, rescues, petfinder, craigslist and the thousand other sites that have unwanted puppies due to backyard breeders.

You should do the responsible thing and not only look out for the health and well being of your own dog... but get him neutered so you don't contribute to the overcrowded pet population... thus resulting in thousands upon thousands of dogs and puppies being euthanized everyday.

We didn't listen because 1. we couldn't aford the surgery, and 2. We just couldn't put him to sleep. Why would I be asking if I didn't want advice? And I know those things, we go to the shelter a lot to look at the dogs, seeking to adopt one. My friend even fosters puppies and kittens constantly! I was expecting this answer anyway, but thank you anyway.
