Ok, I'm installing chair railing throughout our dining room and hallway. When the chair rail butts up to the door molding it hangs over it about 1/8" to 1/4". Is this standard or should I make a 22.5 degree miter cut or what to make the transition look cleaner? I don't want to use decorative blocks, that has already been mentioned to me before. Pictures or drawings help tremendously. Thanks, Hung on Railing

Hold chair molding back from door casing several inches. How far, depends on the how big the room is and many doors there are. The larger the room, the fewer doors the greater distance. Do it at what looks best. Finish the end of chair rail by cutting at 45 degrees and then make a wedge the length of which is the thickness of the molding. Hard to draw. Think of it as mitering around a corner, only one piece is only as long as the molding is thick.
