Will the court appoint another public defender if I fire the 1st one they appointed me? The 1st one will not defend, just try to cop a plea based on the police report.

Hello a:

Yes.

They won't be HAPPY about it, but if you do it right, they will. Write a letter to your lawyer firing him and telling him why. You can certainly say exactly what you did here. Send a copy to the judge and to the prosecutor. Send your letters certified, return receipt requested.

The next time you're in court, request a new lawyer. If they refuse or try to continue on with the case, say again, and again, if you have to that you cannot proceed WITHOUT legal representation. If you say it enough, and get it into the record, even if they proceed, you have grounds for an appeal.

The judge will realize this and appoint you a new lawyer. I doubt whether they'll do it again, though.
