Hello my name is Gulbahor and I'm 25 years old, I've been married to US citizen for almost 6 months now, we sent all the paperwork to immigration and I already had an appointment for my fingerprints to be taken. I've been going through hard time with my husband since we were married, I understood that I did a big mistake back than, but he loves me very much and keeps telling me that he'd die without me and I've been hoping that things will get better. Recently I did an abortion, I asked him many time to have a safe sex, but he kept telling me that he has everything under control. I used to work for cleaning company and we cleaned stores but it was a night job, after we got married he said he does not want me to work, but right now I can't get another day job as I don't have work permit yet, so I didn't have money to go to gynecologist and get birth control pill prescription as I was told at the pharmacy and they are not sold at the store without prescription. Lately I was very much stressed and did not know what to do, I don't have money to go to psychologist, my friend told me that psychologist might help me, so I lately have been trying to find help at the church. Yesterday I went to Macy's and did a stupid thing, I stole merchandise worth $195 and was cought by security, at the store I signed papers saying that I'm guilty and never go to Macy's, then police came and they took my fingerprints and my picture, my court date is December 14. I haven't had an interview for green card yet and still haven't received my work permit. Please advise me what to do, I really regret what I did, but honestly saying I didn't know what I was doing, it seems like I don't care about things anymore, though today I realized that I did a big mistake. Should I hire a lawyer, will it effect on my green card, will it effect to getting my work permit and will I ever get it after shoplifting?
I know I'm in big trouble, I just want to know if it still possible to fix what I've done.
Thank you

It's too soon to tell. You need to wait until the interview and if you're asked, simply tell the truth.. don't lie.

Get yourself a job ASAP, even the old job you used to do. Do not let go without birth control when you already saw the true color of your husband. Go to the doctor, tell him/her that you can't afford the prescriptions, they will get you sample drugs at no cost, or prescribe generic drugs which are much cheaper. You can get them at Walmart for a few dollars. Good luck.

Thank you for reply, at the abortion place they gave me birth control pills for free and told me that they can give me prescription if I need to purchase more, I won't be stupid anymore, it's just I thought without money most of the things are impossible in this country and I should never trusted him, I know this now, I'm not going to hide that I stole, I agreed to pay at Macy's and actually had small bills with me and gave them as first payment, I'm looking for job it's just hard to get one when you don't have SSN and work permit, but I got reply from church I contacted a week ago, maybe they can help me out. I'll see them next week. Also I agreed to participate at paid research on anxiety and depression, they pay pay a lot but it's still something.
