I have just purchased a home and I got everything turned on yesterday. Well once I turned on the hot water heaters I noticed one of them was just not lighting off. So I left it on and came back to the home in a few hours. Everything was all set and I was not getting the same problem I had before. I am still not currently living in the house so I went to go check on things this morning. I could hear the alarms from the drive way. I got inside and both are going off. No smoke no fire. I have a 2 LifeSaver Alarms Model 1235. I looked these up and they are discontinued. I have all ready turned off both water heaters but left the house heater on. I have opened all the windows to let it air out. I went back 2 hours later and plugged one in and it immediately sounded an alarm. No fire no smoke. What could possibly be causing this to happen? I lived in the house a year before it forclosed and this did not happen.

A couple of things are possible. The first is use a can of air to clean the smoke detector. Second, replace the 9 volt battery; yes, it has a battery as a backup if the power goes out.

We are in a new house too, and had some problems with the smoke detectors and it turned out to be the battery. Take the smoke detector off the ceiling, you will be disconnecting it from some wires, and then find the battery compartment; remove and replace the battery with the new one and you should be good.

Dust sets off photoelectric detectors. Condensation will set them off too. So might an old battery,

If all else fails, get new detectors. Better safe, than sorry.

Well I definitely just bought a Kidde Smoke Alarm/ Carbon Monoxide detector. I have placed it in the house and I shut all the windows and turned back on the hot water heaters. I will try the battery replace once I get off work.

For this stupid model of smoke detector there is a battery compartment but no contacts for the smoke alarm to be powered by a batter in the compartment. Go figure.
