I got my temporary green card 2 years ago through marriage. Almost a year ago I applied to remove the conditon. And I got my new permanent green card about a week ago. I need to get divorced from my husband asap. I was wondering when is it OK for me to do so that it won't jeopardize my status? A week? A month? A year? Thanks a lot :)

Don't make it too soon.. why don't you start with legal separation for a while until you reach the requirements to file a divorce, then you can go ahead.

U have no idea what my situation is so quit running your mouth and go back to starbucks! Im asking a question to get a legit answer from an attorney, not to be judged by some like u.

I live in CT so the rues here are pretty simple, you just apply for divorce and you get divorced in about 4 months. So how long should I wait till I apply?

At least six months... since you already become permanent resident, divorce will not jeopardize your status but you will be eligible to apply for naturalization in five years instead of three years.. good luck.

If the remove of condition has been approved and the G.C that you just received is good for 10 years ,< BINGO> you got it... you can leave this marriage anytime ,and it won't effect your immigration status... you can applay for citizenship or stay as a resident... good luck
