I have been dating a man for about 5 months. He told me when we first started to date that he only ever saw himself with one woman, his high school sweetheart. At the time I did not care we were just dating and getting to know each other so no big deal. But after 4 months he told me something he never did before. "i have never felt this way about any woman for 4 years. I love you." it took me by surpise but I told him if he did not love me then to not say it. He said "I understand. I love you." I was happy about it cause I have a thing about if a man is still in love with someone I will let them tell me when they are ready to love again after sucha heartbreak. I thought that was the end of that, cause I love him too.
We work together over seas and it is time for his vaction for the past week he has been a bit distant. Not talking but he still would hold me and make love to me. One day I was walking to his apartment and I overheard him and his friend talking. This is how the conversation went. "I only want to be with one woman for the rest of my life."
"Angel?" "No, my old high school sweetheart"
I was heart broken. I told him not say he loved me if he didn't. I am one that believes in if you love someone you do not say it to someone else. I told him that and I told him to always be honest with me. I did not get my hopes up in a long term relationship until he said that to me. Am I hopelessly in love with a man who will never love me and I will always be the 2nd best. Or is it okay for a man to cling to a woman and love another. I just need some feedback if I am doing the right thing by considering breaking this off before I get hurt more.
