I want to install new wood laminate flooring in my kitchen & dining area. I currently have a wood floating floor. Originally I was going to instal the new floor over the old floor. The flooring Company however said the granite top we were putting on center island would be too much weight and the old floor should be removed 1st. How do I cut the existing floor off flush with my baseboards on my cabinets? I sure don't want to move all my cabinets to take the original floors out from underneath.

What leads you to think the old floating floor goes under the cabinets? Most do not so it worth checking, try removing the kickplate of the dishwasher if you have one to get a better look.

The word "original" bothers me.

How can a floating floor float if the cabinets are resting on top of them. In my opinion, the island should not go over the present floating floor.

There are methods of cutting flush if need be, but I doubt you'll have to.
