Hello,

Last year my partner and I were trying to conceive. We were in a long distance relationship so we were having sex only 1 time or so a month. After the second month of trying to conceive, about 8 days later I started to have bleeding with Huge clots. I went to the ER and they ruled out a miscaraige and said that "sometimes abnormal bleeding happends" and only said that my hormone levels were a little wacky but nothing was really wrong. This bleeding lasted for about 2 days.

Recently, we had sex... and while not purposely trying to conceive, we didn't use a condom. One day after, I began to bleed... This is in the middle of my menstrual cycle because I got my period 2 weeks prior to this and its not due until another two weeks really. I began to bleed moderately to lightly with small clots here and there. It has been two days now and this bleeding is still here (three days total... its light and spotty now).

My question is, can this bleeding be related to trying to conceive? I usually don't get abnormal bleeding, but I am beginning to think that it has something to do with sperm contacting my eggs? When I contact the doctor, they say that abnormal bleeding is normal sometimes... even though I don't get it often. However, I want to know if it could be something related to conceiving. Please advise.

This should not be related to concieving. Some women may spot slightly when the egg ruptures during ovulation, but its nowhere near what you're describing. Conception will not result in bleeding and clots... the physician is right to tell you abnormal bleeding happens from time to time. Bleeding will not occur when sperm contacts egg.

Rigorous sex can also cause bleeding due to friction, but clots are another matter and are not likely related.
