Do we have to continue paying child support on a child who is almost 19, going to graduate in May and has signed up for 6 years in the National Guard? Once she has graduated we don't pay anymore correct? Technically the government is taking care of her not her mother.

What does your support order say? That's the place to start. Is she in College? Will she continue her education while in the National Guard - or work - ?

We can't answer this question because this is something spelled out in the support agreement. Generally, most child support agreements run untl 18 or the end of schooling, whichever is later.

And no the government isn't taking care of her, its simply employing her. Also, a National Guard commitment may not be full time. She could be continuing her schooling and living at home during part of her 6 yr enlistment. Which might cause support to continue.

Everyone's advice so far is correct. And I believe can vary by state as well. I know in the state of WI your support can continue after the age of 18 if the child is enrolled in college full time. I don't know for how long this would continue for but I do know its possible.

And she may have joined for the purpose of assistance with College expenses and also be a full time student.

In my area the NG is recruiting all the time, relentlessly.
