I had a licensed plumber come into our home to "rough in" a bathroom, in the basement of my home. They added above and below grade drains for a toilet, sink and tub.
They also provided venting for the bathroom, but did not connect it to the existing vent going outside through the roof. All they did was run the inch and a half vent into the rafters and added a "diffuser" on the end. They said this was enough and connecting it to the vent to the outside was not necessary.
Is this correct or was I fibbed too?

If by "diffuser" you mean AAV,(air admittance valve, see image) it will vent your group but I would much rather have seen a revent back to a xisting roof vent. Regards, tom

If they took it as far as the attic, they should have made the little extra effort to finish the job correctly, either by tying in to an existing vent or taking a separate vent out through the roof. Mind you this is only an opinion and depending on your location, this is probably code approved (aav), I find aav's to be poor plumbing practice unless no other option available. Hope not to offend anyone, like a I said, just an opinion.
