I have oak kitchen cabinets that are pale in colour what some call pickled wood, and I was wondering how do I fix the area around the door nobs that have become worn and are darker in colour (like the regular colour of wood).

Have you tried cleaning the cabinets with anything yet?

If wear has actually worn through the pickling down to bare wood you are stuck. No cleaning will remove that color since it is likley the bare wood. If you can't match the pickling then paint a contrasting color or buy metal knobs.

I guess it has gone down to the wood. Here is a picture. What would you do to fix?
Thanks

Hi, MBO8!
Your images and link are not showing here. Maybe it's just my computer, but I do know that we've been having some issues with posting images since the site was updated about a week ago.
Thanks!

You may be able to change the hardware or add a piece that will cover up and protect that area from further damage. Look at this link, there is a plate you can put behind the knob that would work.

That is your easiest solution, don't think you can easily repair it without refinishing the whole door.

It looks like the protective finish wore off. Take the knobs off and clean the dark area. Try using some bleach after it is clean and let it dry. Spray a clear finish over it to protect it from further damage.
