Hello,
About a week ago the pump for my septic tank broke. I replaced the pump
And everything is working fine now. My problem is that some sewage backed up into my downstairs washroom onto an old cement floor. I have noticed a strong odor in the basement and coming up through the air vents. I have scrubbed the floors and toilet numerious times with mr.clean, lysol and bleach but it still smells. I have also noticed a growth of a white crystal substance or mold around the toilet. I don't know how to get rid of either the smell or the crystal growth. Do you have any advice?

Would this be a basement toilet that has the crystals? Do they dissolve in water? Do they smell? Does the toilet have moisture coming from the base? If you remove them do thet grow back? Do you have floor drains that may have lost the trap seal and are now letting in sewer gas? If you're not using the floor drains then fill the traps with motor oil. Motor oil won't evaporate over a length of time and let sewer gas into your house. Regards, Tom
