I have windows XP.

When first logging on to my computer and to Firefox I get this message:

16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem

C:\PROGRA~1\LEXMAR~\lxbbbmgr.exe
THE NTVDM CPU has encountered and Illegal instruction.
CS:054aIP:0101 OP:ff ff ff 99 ff Choose "close" to terminate the application.

I choose the close button.
Then I get:

MsnMsgr.Exe - Bad Image
The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\SensApi.dill is not valid Windows image.
Please check this against your installation diskette.

I click the OK button.
I have to click the button three times to get rid of it.

I can't get into my MSN e-mail or Windows live messenger.
When I try I get:

msmgs.exe - Application Error
this application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005) Click on OK to terminate the application.

I tried the SpyBot but that did not work.

Most likely possibilities:
1. Hard drive is failing and corrupting files.
2. Viral infection.

To confirm #1, open the computer up, locate the hard drive, and note the brand and model number. Visit the drive manufacturer's web site, find their support / download section, and download their diagnostic utility. They may have both Windows and DOS based diagnostic utilities. I find placing the DOS diagnostic on a self-booting floppy or USB flashdrive is preferable. The DOS download is usually a utility to create a Diagnostic Boot Floppy. Restart the computer booting to the floppy or USB flashdrive and run the diagnostic. You may need to adjust the computer's boot order in the BIOS Setup at startup to boot to a device other than the hard drive. Also, backing up important data first would be prudent as failing drives typically become less usable the more they operate.

For #2, do a full scan with multiple current antiviral software products.

If both those check out OK, post back.

Suggest then you take computer to local service facility or get friendly with a local geek. Could be a lot of things. When troubleshooting, eliminating potential hardware problems first, particularly the hard drive, allows any software corrections such as a system restore or replacing the files manually to be more than a temporary fix. Besides the Firefox update, have there been any recent changes to the computer?

Couldn't uninstall Lexmark because it reads it's in use.
