I have an 8 yr. old miniature Dachshund . She has become morbidly overweight. I have started to cut her food back and she IS losing weight. I worry whether I may not be feeding her enough or maybe still too much. I've been feeding her 1/4 cup of wet food along w/ 1/4 cup dry 2 times daily. I will appreciate any advice you can give me.
She is still getting a few tiny bites of some of the food I eat.

Thanks so Much! Eileen

If she's very overweight, reducing her food is not going to be enough. She needs more exercise, and healthy, low calorie treats. Instead of table scraps of dog treats, try giving her carrots instead. You can also supplement her food with carrots and other veggies, which will help her lose weight without going hungry. For example, you could feed her 2/3 of what you feed her now, and give her a handful of baby carrots or green beans to make up for the food you had to hold back. Veggies are low in calories and I know they won't cause weight-gain. I probably don't need to tell you how incredibly dangerous it is for a Dachshund to be overweight because of the strain it puts on their spine.
