Hi,

Can someone please help me with this question. I'm not sure if I have it all horribly wrong or not...
Please refer to the attached picture "capacitance.jpg".

With a current moving from A to B and the several capacitors between the idea is to find total capacitance from A to B.

Here is what I got...
In finding the total capacitance of the above capacitor some parts are in series and others in parallel.
C1 is in series with (C2, C3, C4)
C2 and C3 are in series together but parallel to C4

First find C2 and C3:-
Because they are series 1/C = 1/C2 + 1/C3
So, 1/C = 1/4 + 1/4
So, C = 2

Now (C2 and C3) are in parallel to C4:-
So, C = 2(from above) + C4
So, C = 2 + 6 = 8

Finally C1 is in series with (C2, C3, C4):-
So, 1/C = 1/C1 + 1/(C2, C3, C4)
So, 1/C = 1/5 + 1/8
So, 1/C = 13/40
So C = 40/13 microFarads

And that's it, have I gone completely wrong here?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thank you in advance
Dave :D

Hi Dave,

From what I remember I reckon you've nailed it.

Yeah, that's right. You doing Alevel Physics? I did it too last year.

Cheers for all the help people, I got the assignment back and scored full makes for that question... guess I just need to back myself sometimes. But it's nice to know if it's all going terrible wrong before you have it in :)
I am studying electrical engineering and the course was engineering science which was basically nothing but physics...

Thank you to all
Dave
