Hi,
I usually go to a salon to get my hair coloured but due to lack of finances I need to colour it at home. I could really use some advise on how to mix colours to achieve my desired end shade. I am able to purchase professional colour at our local beauty supply store but they are unable to offer any advice on how to mix colours, which I can understand.

My natural hair colour is a medium to dark brown with grey! I would like to achieve a golden medium brown with a bit of warmth but not too much red. I like the Goldwell colours and noticed Elumen on their web site, any advise on this brand? I was going to mix a 6RB with 6N but was wondering if a 6GB would give me more of a golden shade.

Any advise is greatly appreciated; I can hardly wait to get back to a salon but this will have to do for now.
Thanks,
Heather

Have you asked your salon what color number and what brand they were using on your hair? That would sure eliminate a lot of guesswork on your part.

Or you could try one number per month until you did achieve the right color number. Just recommending a color number is not good enough as I have noticed when I color my hair if I use a different number my hair won't be that particular color due to the hair shaft absorption or lack of absorption.

Hi Twinkiedooter,
Thanks for the advice; unfortunately my salon uses Aveda hair colour which I can't buy on my own.

Never heard of Aveda. What country are you in?
