I have purchased a Seagate Freeagent portable drive with the view to having backup of everything on my Desktop computer.

How do I transfer the files from my Desktop to the portable drive?

In trying to make life easier,in preparation for transferring my files I have dragged all my files that appeared on my desktop into the "MY Documents " folder (in a sub folder called Desktop files).

However I can't find instructions that just tell me in simple steps how to transfer my revamped My Documents folder across to the portable drive

So I take it you are just trying to back up data and files, not the whole operating system?

Do you have your new drive attached to your PC? If so, you should see the drive in windows explorer as a drive letter. From there you would be able to drag files/folders to the new drive letter.

You can create new folders on new drive and drag and drop from your c:\ drive to the new drive how ever you see fit.

Basically in windows explorer, you would use the new drive as you would any other drive on your computer, except you are working with portable drive.
