Hello there,
I suffered a house fire and lost all of my immigration paperwork in the fire and I have a temporary green card which I got it through a marriage and expires in January 2009.
I am also middle of a divorce period which will be final before the expiration date on my green card.
I had all of my documents like pictures, leases, bills, copy of the paperwork that I sent them before , etc...
What should I do any suggestions?

No. the home owners insurance covers their stuff, not yours.
You wouldve needed to have renters insurance. (Its cheap, so get it for your next apartment).

What was the cause of the fire? Maybe if it was homeowners fault you could do something?

Contact INS - they will have a copy of everything you sent them. Otherwise you'll have to go document by document, place to place, requesting copies.

Thanks a lots.also it seems like fire caused by my rrommates fault not pulling the cigarette out properly on the back porch and I lost everything I have because of his stupied act.
Can I sue him for my lost property?is he responsible for my medical bills?

Do you have proof of the cause of the fire?

I don't see you have a claim based on mistake but you can always try if you have proof.

NO, I don't have any proof fire report says the fire cause is still in investigation.what if I died in the fire with the cat it would still be a mistake of him?

Yes, so it means you need to be a good choice of roomates in the future, or if you leave in apartments how all the other tennants in all the other apartments don't start a fire.

You buy and keep several good smoke and heat detectors to start.

Well it wasn't my choice to pick to roommate actually my landlord brought him over to apartment without my permission and I gave him a notice that I was moving out end of October because of I didn't wanted to live with someone that I don't know.

You cannot sue for "what if's." You can only sue for what actually happened and what you can prove.

And, yes, if you had died in the fire and he did not intentionally set the fire he would not be criminally charged and the fire would have been a "mistake," not arson, not a crime.

Now I'm confused - you were living in an apartment and paying the rent by yourself, you came home and there was someone living there and your landlord introduced him as your new roommate?

What State?

I live in Mass.well, my landlords daughter is my roommate and I rented the room from her and she was living in the apartment as well with her 2 cats then one day she told me in the kitchen that she rented the room and guy showed up the next day I had no idea that he was moving in the very next day.I actually gave my verbal notice to my landlord that I was moving out end of October.
