Hi, I would like to know if once my husband adopts my daughter, do the paternal grandparents have visitation rights? My daughters bilogical father past away.

First I would hope you would want to allow them to visit and would work out a relationship with them, it is their grandchild and not their fault.

But many states allow for their rights so if you don't work it out with them, they may sue in family court for a fixed visit schedule.

It's different State by State - I just posted two of the States.

Tell us which State and I'll tell you the law.

Once someone becomes the legal parent of a child, they have all the rights, privileges and responsibilities of the bio parent. These rights would extend to the family.

Now, reading between the lines, I would suspect you don't want them to have visitation. Can you explain why?

If you refuse to allow visitation, depending on where you live, they could go to court for rights.
