This thing is less than 2 years old, bought from Sears, very very little usage, maybe two loads a week for a single guy.

One day it just stopped turning on, period. If you open the door, the light comes on, but it won't spin. It doesn't "try" to spin, it doesn't make noises or sounds, just nothing happens. I tried all combinations of cycles and no good.

I tested the power at the circuit breaker, it works. I tested power at the outlet, it works, both 120V have power, though it reports more like 118V.

I took the cover off the back and tested power at the terminals from the plug, and those have power as well.

The only problem is that on the power cord, the three prongs have some green corrosion, and on one of the 120 prongs has a blackened base with some melted rubber. Obviously that prong had a surge of some kind to blacken and melt it.

That said, what could be the problem? Even with the burned out prong, the dryer still receives the power on the dryer side.

Sears wants $200 for a year warranty to come fix it, or else $70 house call just to bid me a price on the fix. So $70 plus parts and labor. The dryer itself wasn't even more than $400 if I remember. Is it just cheap? Why would it go bad so fast on such little usage? What could be the problem? Is there anything more I can test or replace myself?

Thanks

I had the same problem and found that a $7 part the thermal fuse was blown easy fix but why? The fuse protects the dryer from overheating so check the exhaust hose and see if it is not plugged up with lint
