I plan on having a c-section once my twins are due. Once I am discharged from the hospital, myself, mother and newborn twins have to make a 6 hour drive back home, in 2 separate cars. So needless to say, I'll be driving. I hear that depending on your Doctor, most Doctors recommend not to drive anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks after you've had a c-section. I can't seem to find an explanation as to why you cannot drive! I can't drive! That's seems ridiculous to me! Now the question: Why can't I drive after having a c-section??

You have had major abdominal surgery and either breaking can rupture the area or you may not have the strength. I had to wait 6 weeks to drive as well

You cannot drive because of the abdominal surgery as well as the risk of an accident. I am curious as to why you are not delivering closer to home.

I am in the Military. I have to give birth where I am stationed, but I am spending my maternity leave at my mother's house which is 6 hours away.

Makes sense. So, if you are spending your maternity leave there, 2 - 6 weeks shouldn't be a problem as most maternity leaves are 12 weeks.

There are many risks with driving during the post-partum period. Also, a 6 hour drive with twins at that age can be exhausting for anyone, much less a mom driving by herself.

Is there anyway to take just one car? If necessary, maybe plan to stay near the hosptial a couple of days before you have to go in so that you can be driven there ahead of time and then you mom can the day of the birth.

Prior to having my section I, like you, did not see the point in why I could not drive. That is until after my surgery. It is very difficult to even get in/out of a car, sit up straigt and to move at all. You may be in pain also which may require you to take pain medications which you should not drive while taking. Is there any way for you to find another driver.

Well thank you for all the input. I have no idea what I'm going to do. I have to somehow get my car to Arizona after my c-section. I don't know anyone out here and the Father is out at sea, so he is of no help currently. My Mother and I will figure something out! :(
