What type of business?

I would say you need a business plan first - what do you want to accomplish, what are your goals - followed by a financial plan.

If it's a targeted business - which I own and operate - you have to take a close look at the economy in your area, the need for your business/services, the competitors, how you are going to advertise/publicize, what makes your business, experience, talent, unique.

I sell my services and have a lot of business because I am a female in a male-dominated business.

Yes, it would help to know what type of business it is that you would want to start. Depending on what it is, there is the possibility that there might be someone who is a member of this site who might be in the same kind of business.

As has already been mentioned, having a business plan is a must.

I have a number of small businesses that I run. They are all service oriented.
