My daughter was abused by an ex boyfriend nearly 3 years ago. I was accused and placed in jail for 8 months before my name was cleared. During the time I had two choices: adoption or foster care. After talking to her father's family, who assured me visitation rights and eventual overnight visits, I chose adoption. It's been this long and I still have only supervised visits a few hours once a week. That wasn't the deal. Can I have my baby back on these grounds? The agreement was verbal, does it still hold? I don't want to uproot my daughter again, but I fear the adoptive parents will never live up to what I was promised.:confused:

Nope, verbal agreements have no bearing, only the written agreement in the formal adoption orders. They don't even have to let you see the child.

Even the written agreement is only upholdable in 2 states (last I checked anyway).

Adoptive parents not living up to their promises is what is making more and more women decide NOT to choose adoption.

You're welcome to get a lawyer to try to prove that you were coerced into signing the adoption papers, but that's a hard charge to prove. As far as I know, though, only proof of coercion can overturn an adoption.
