We cut off water supply for a couple of hours due to remodeling. We also took out the hot water heater. We turned the water back on and have cold water in every room except the bath tub. We have replaced the filter. When we removed the spout water is definitely coming through the pipes, but when we put the faucet back on, there is no water. Just a trickle. Any ideas? WE have not put the water heater back in as of yet.

It is a Delta.

It is pressure balanced faucet. If you have water coming in from only one side, it will not work properly. The pressure balancing piston inside the cartridge works properly only if pressure is present evenly, from both hot and cold water side. In other words, cold water pressure is pushing piston all the way to the other side, the hot side, disallowing hot water to pass through ). Put the heater back in and reinstall water to both sides (hot and cold). It should work just fine...

Milo is exatly right. If you don't plan on putting the w/h back in for awhile, just tie your cold and hot pipes together temporarily. Then see if your tub faucets works. I would just cap my hot water line at the water heater and then hook a washer hose from the hot to the cold on my washing machine supplys. Easies way to connect hot to cold.

You guys were right. We put the hot water heater back in and now we finally have water in the tub! I wish I had asked the question before we spent 64.00 on a new filter.
Thanks guys! You are awesome!
