I used to work in property management in a different state, but now I live in WA so I was wondering if anyone knew the answer to this...

The (one-year) lease in our apartment ended at the end of July. Two of us were out of town when this time came up and we never signed a lease renewal. When it came time to pay rent at the beginning of August, my one remaining roommate (my boyfriend) was forced to sign a typed-up, makeshift paper saying that he was committing to staying for another year. Only it had just his name and the name of a FORMER roommate. Our current roommate and myself never signed, and our names were never even on it.

Also, since we filled out applications after the initial move-in, we (myself and other roommate) never even signed ANY lease.

So my question is this, is the renewal contract valid? Are we contractually bound to another year here if not everyone signed in agreement? (from my experience I would say definitely NO, but I live in a different state now... ) Roommate and I never signed. Because now it's a few months later, and our roommate decided to pack up and leave while we were out of town for a few days.

Any info would be EXTREMELY appreciated!

The people that signed the lease would be the only ones on the lease.
