As for the Christmas project, I'm thinking of making CD holders. I never have enough CD holders, and I hate the metal ones, the CD's always fall out. I'll have to think of a neat design, I want to make them look good as well as be functional.

Darnit though, why was it that when we were kids, Christmas took forever to come. Now, it's right around the corner and before you know it, it will be here.

Wood dowels and a few 1X's maybe?

Definitely dowels, probably pine because I have tons of pine handy and it's easy to work with. Of course I'll router the edges, but I think I might make it fancy, not just rounded edges. I also do wood burning, so I'll probably burn a pattern into the sides. Then I'll just put a high gloss laquer on it and voilà, instant CD rack. ;)

Okay, that was easy, now I just have to do it. ;)

Pine CD racks might be a bit heavy though. Hmmmm, I might have to give this more thought. Pine also isn't fun to burn, it has too much grain and my wood burning tool isn't the best, not hot enough to make an impression without putting a lot of pressure on it, so I have to work against the grain, and it isn't always easy.

Oak is out of the question, burning oak is not fun. Maple, too expensive.

There go the plans. ;)

Cedar! Cedar not only smells good, burns easy, but it's also pretty light and very easy to work with.

Cedar it is. Ooooh, cedar isn't cheap either, at least not for the good stuff.

How about old weathered barn siding?

I not only live in an old converted barn,but stock around 2000 feet of old siding,it burns real easily,simple to work with,lightweight,takes finishes very well,hmmm now to ship some to you... lol

We make a lot of projects from the old siding,neighbors tear down a building,we get the wood,nice.

They really don't know how much it's worth,in the suburbs of Chicago it was going for $1.70 a foot!

Wow, I'd love to work with some old weathered wood. I have a dream of making a beautiful kitchen table out of weathered old wood, or an entire tree, with the bark left on for the edging. I'm terrible at describing things, can you picture it?

That actually reminds me of a beautiful mail box a friends Uncle made one year. It was a log that he hollowed out and then cut in half. He put hinges on and made a mail box. I love the look of it, the bark, the fact that it looks so natural. He put a low gloss spray laquer on to keep it looking natural. It's absolutely beautiful.

Hmmm... how much would it cost to ship some wood from Illinois to Alberta? It might be cheaper to find my own barn, in the dark, late at night, when no one's watching. ;)

This wasn't just your run of the mill meteor though. This was a HUGE round yellowish red ball that was so bright that you could hardly look at it, and it was surrounded by a blinding light for miles! I've seen meteors and meteorites, and this sure as hell didn't look like that at all, and it lasted for a really long time! They were reporting that if that is what it was, it was one of the biggest they've ever seen... but yet they say they can't find it! Hmmmmm! :eek:;) LOL!

Started working on an entertainment center for the 70+ yr old cougar who has been after me for 6-7 years or so,she is a good spirit and needs some pick-me-ups.This should help her with access to the TV and such.

It's sad, when I'm in the garage working, I lose all track of time, forget to eat, heck, if I didn't have to go to the bathroom once in a while I'd never take a break.

Even my painkillers don't seem to want to kick in tonight! My head feels like it could explode at any minute now, and I've taken my limit! They are strong ones, but I think I'm getting immune to them. Time to switch them up on my next Dr.'s appt. Blah!

My knee,not sure, 2 trees fell during a huge wind storm,1 giant cottonwood(fell on the truck no less) and a 70 foot Maple(1/5 of the tree) with a chainsaw and log splitter we got about 14 cord of wood from the 2,my using the splitter was 6 days of standing,wide stance(too tall) and leaning to retrieve the split pieces,then throwing them on the trailer for stacking,this constant twisting while throwing caused inflammation to the knee and it never got better,in fact worsened,and then roofing,ugg no good!:(

Even since I finished the job and have been off for 3 days,it hasn't stopped,WHINE WHINE, WHIMPER WHIMPER.

Well I get the results of MRI tomorrow afternoon,and then probably surgery asap.Meds haven't helped much,except to put me to sleep(Vicodin)

Yeah, that would do it I guess! Whoever said hard work was a good thing? LOL! I think some of my problems started after I broke my tailbone twice. But they definitely got worse with many more broken bones, which are stories I won't go into. I'm on a waiting list for a hip replacement, but actually and probably stupidly am trying to put it off as long as possible.

Hate not being independent. I wasn't for many years, so when I finally got to be, I decided I was never going to give it up again to anyone, so that part of it is hard for me. The recovery period, as I've been told, will be a long one. They will even take away my drivers license for 4 to 6 months. Oh no they ditn't! ::snap:: LOL!

Better watch out with that Vicoden, just like I have to watch out with my Percocet. Even though some days I am tempted to take more than prescribed, I won't do it. I only take two a day at the most, and in fact I quarter them, and only take a quarter through the day when I really need to. I hate the hazy feeling, and sometimes I just get really tired at whatever time of the day. It sucks doesn't it? I am only 29 after all... LOL!

Hope your surgery goes well. Actually not even two months after my sis's knee surgery, she was out on a 3 day walk for breast cancer! So hopefully yours goes that well too!

Addictive personality?? What's that?? Once I take my Ortoton for fibromyalgia, Valium for muscle pain, paracetamol with Codeine for my cancer and spine - I'm just fine. Don't need to be addicted to any of that other stuff - it's bad for you. At this point in life, I don't care if I am addicted, as long as the pain is more tolerable and my mind still active and not lethargic like with morphine. I would be the world's worst junkie because I need my brain active and working.

I had all four wisdom teeth taken out at one time, and was put on Percodan in the 70's. Once I read that they can get you hooked (after still taking them two months later) I gave the rest back to the dentist, and he put them in his pocket and said - hey thanks... go figure! Then there was Darvon - which also made me nauseus as heck. Just recently my Primary Clinician wanted me to use Morphine patches, but I got boils all over and really dizzy, so I told him where to stick them himself.

Ironic how my system is so different... when I tried speed (young and dumb days) it made me fall asleep within 1/2 hour and when I take Valium, I'm up and cleaning house and wide awake. It happens to one in a million, and I guess I'm it...

That's funny Cher! I'm fine on my percs, but it's like I can be wide awake at one minute, and the next I'm so tired I can't see straight! I liked the morphine... maybe a little too much, LOL! But that only lasted for so long, and my system got immune to that. Now I think it's doing the same with the percs. I've never heard of Darvon.

Not really... Honest. I personally know of a woman who is a natural blond, AND has black hair elsewhere - and that's natural too. It surprised me, but I know her since birth and was told that this is possible, especially when American Indian genes and others (Blackfoot Nation and German) get mixed. They both are real strong genes and like to make their dominance noticed one way or the other. And it gets passed by females generations down the line. That's evolution for you!

That happened to me too a few times in the beginning, so what I did was tell the site to 'remember me' and keep me logged in during initial login-in - just place your check mark there... It used to dump me out while I was responding to posts - boy a lot of frustration and re-typing - but that solved it.

At 7:30 this lovely morning, without any notice, the neighbours have hired a BACKHOE! I don't know exactly what they are doing, but they are right beside my dining room window, and my whole house is shaking! I swear they just hit the side of my house! I can't get to the neighbours house because the backhoe is taking up the whole yard, and I'm about to go balistic on someone! Niki is going insane, and I can't stop her from barking! On a good note... guess what guys?! I had a girl send me a message lastnite on Facebook. I had advertised in a group I belong to for someone to walk and take Niki to the dog park and run her. It turned out that this girl knew my best friend of 20 plus yrs, and I called my friend and she said I didn't have to worry about Natalee taking Niki. She showed up this morn at 8:30, and took Niki for an hr. along with her dogs. All the dogs took to each other right away, and got along great! Natalee is going to come every morning, execpt for wknds. and take Niki, and she refuses to charge me a dime! I tried to give her money today, and she just wouldn't take it! I'll have to get her a C'mas gift. Niki was soooo happy when she got home. I sure wish I could run her myself, but at least she is going to get out everyday now. Well, weather permitting. The only other thing is, Natalee is preggie. But my friend said knowing Natalee, within a few weeks she will be back at the park with her dogs and the baby. I sure hope so... Niki took to her right away! :D

Hey... Kenster didn't mention any tree climbing! Where did that get included in the deal? :eek: Is it a 'sturdy' tree? Are there 'pokey' branches? Will I lose an 'eye'? Are there any beavers or uhhmm... termites in the area? Will I start to 'bark'? When it gets late is Ken going to ask me to 'leave'? Is he going to get all 'sappy'? Started working on an entertainment center for the 70+ yr old cougar who has been after me for 6-7 years or so,she is a good spirit and needs some pick-me-ups.This should help her with access to the TV and such.

The wood came from a bank in Alliance, Ohio,shipped to Cincinnati,and then up here... been around..

Trim was left-overs from a closed down lumber yard(I got all the water stained and left overs for free... hehehe)

Here's what got me started, my first ever project.

You see, I wanted a key box, not just one of those little metal things that says KEYS that you hang on the wall, but a pretty box. So, one day I decided to make one.

I didn't know a scroll saw from a table saw to a mitre saw, nope, didn't know a darn thing. Growing up I wasn't allowed to use tools, my dad was old fashioned that way, heck, I wasn't even allowed to mow the lawn. It's funny, because he still wanted me to have a career. It's not so much that he forbade me from doing it, I really think that he didn't believe I could because I'm female. He'd be shocked (and pleased) at what I do now.

So, I picked out some wood, decided what I wanted it to look like, measured (not my strong suit) and set to work. Hubby was nervous the first time I used the mitre, he really thought I'd cut off a finger, but I didn't. In the end this is what I came up with.

Yup, that's my first ever project, my key box. Now I've perfected it, can slap one together in a day, that first one took me over a week, not including the staining and lacquering. ;)

The car will eventually be put up for raffle(500 tickets) for a fund raiser,annually a local group called Farming Heritage needs to get some revenue for restoration projects and model t T's have been a great way to do it.

That is Uber Cool Ken! I'm an antique car LOVER! I used to belong to our local car club. My first car was a stock 64 and a half, Mustang! First yr they were made, and were made mid yr. I am so sorry I don't have it now. 4 on the floor stick, 289, it was heaven! Won many races in that car! :D The old ones like yours though, I am just fascinated with! I can't believe you are going to part with it... but hey, that's an admirable thing to do on your part! Makes it even cooler! ;)

The most exciting car I was ever in was a pearlescent(sp?) body,candy apple red hardtop(with flecks) '57 Chevy Bel-air.

Fiberglass front end,remove it and stand right in the wheel wells.

Had a '69 corvette 350 modified and bored(383),supposedly had 10 1/2:1 compression(although I never saw the comp. test results)New single intake(ran too rich,2 carbs were too much)NO HEAT BRRRRRRR... only the straight headers allowing the heat to come through the floorboards.

Raced at Union Grove(1/4 mile drag) and got low 13's.
