Hi there, I'm 20 years old, happily in a steady relationship and living with him on our own. But for the past 9 months we have been trying to become pregnant and no luck! A friend of mine and her boyfriend were pregnant within 8 months of not even trying! I know it can take some time, and patience, but I'm worried I may be infertile!
I currently am a smoker and I know that can have an effect. Sometimes I think I'm lucky and am pregnant when a period is really late but then it just shows up and I'm starting to become depressed. My family doctor won't help because he thinks I am to young to become pregnant, so I really don't know what to do. I've looked and looked all over the internet and all I want are some answers. I'm still healthy, I stay away from drugs and alcohol. Could it be me? Could it be my boyfriend? I just want some answers please.
Thank you.

First, you should go see an OB not your family doctor for a preconception visit, it takes a lot of couples over one year to conceive. Just try to relax and have some fun, easier said than done, but sometimes if you are trying to hard... that could be the problem. If you are concerned about you or your boyfriends fertility... get tested, that is the only way to know for sure if there is a problem. I do not want to sound like I am preaching... but, it may be better if you would quit smoking before you get pregnant, instead of trying to quit after you have conceived.
