I live in Florida, my wife and son live in Kentucky. We were married in Ky. We both agree on everything and we want to get divorced without an attorney since we are both laid off form our jobs money is tight. I don't have a clue where to begin. Have any input?

I did my own divorce several years ago with a kit I received when I replied to an ad in the Toronto Star. It worked well as I remember. Filling out my own paperwork and submitting it to the court, though the only stipulation was that you had to have a legal separation of three years from your spouse in order for it to work. So maybe you should get your legal separation first (that you will have to pay a nominal fee for) and then go on line and find one of these kits. If you cant, then you will have to put some cash into the effort.

Jesse,

First, you need to file papers in your state of residence, I'm guessing that is Florida.

A friend of mine used an online preparation service. You complete a questionnaire regarding the situation, they prepare the documents and you file them at the courthouse. She said it was a great price and really easy/stress free.

Hope this helps man,

Before you go filing anything, you must reside in Florida for at least 6 months to properly file for a divorce. If you don't have that qualification met, your other half shoud file for divorce in Kentucky. You must meet the residency requirements in order to proceed.
