I am on OPT and I have a 1 year work permit. Can I renew my work permit before it expires under f-1 status?

In normal situation, OPT is a 12 months term except those under the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List from a college or university certified by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Student and Exchange Visitor Program (science, technology, engineering, or mathematics).
