My soblings and I are planning to surprise our parents with an Alaskan cruise for their anniversary. As American citizens, do they need a passport for this? And if so, how the heck do we get them without giving away the surprise?

Under current rules, you need a passport if you fly to or from Vancouver, British Columbia, in conjunction with your cruise but not if you drive to Vancouver or sail round-trip from Seattle.
