Owner manual states the Craftsman lawn tractor takes 3.5 pints of oil (almost 2 quarts), which is way above the dip stick full line. Should I put in the amount of oil listed or just fill it to the full line on the dip stick?

I have a 21.5 hp Craftsman LM with BS engine and it takes 2 qts but after I switched over to a Fram filter it takes an additional 22 oz to reach the full mark on the dip stick.

Did the owners manual you have come with the LM? Unless you have the wrong dip stick installed I would suggest going by its full mark.

I would just fill it to the fill line on the dip stick ;)

If you have an oil filter, the 3.5 pints would be the amount required if you change the filter. Fill to full line only.
