Hi! I've written here before... had some issues with my period - missed it for 6 months... then prolactin level went down to normal on its own [level of 12] - Dr. put me on 21 days of birth control [Yasmin] to re-start my period... and alas, I got my period! :) Now, the Dr. re-checked my prolactin levels again and it's up to 30 right now! Why is this? Will my prolactin level of 30 hinder my period? Do you think I will be able to get my next period on my own? [as I've stopped the birth control pills] even though my prolactin levels went up again? I was told that normal prolactin levels are anything from 26 and below... and I am at 30. Only a slight elevation so I'm wondering if this is a big concern... help! Thanks!!

Has PCOS been ruled out? This may account for the changes in prolactin levels... often higher levels will be found in women with PCOS and this inturn will effect their menstrual cycle as well as ovulation. There are a few things that can effect levels... thyroid issues, certain medications, etc.. A level of 30 may be enough to effect one person but not another as it is not usually considered high. At that level it may just be due to the birth control pills. See what happens with another period.
