I have put an offer in on a house- it is first floor above a shop and flat, The room directly above the shop has a particularly springy floor- the shop below is open plan and there appears to be a beam but as the surveyor only surveyed the property to be sold she has advised it is investigated further. Is this normal? And if the beam is inadequate who would be responsible for correcting it. I have asked a builder to have a look at it for me in the first instance

Any advice would be very much appreciated

Sarah, a builder could give you a very rough guess but a structural engineer or architect would be the person to call. All floors have a slight bounce including concrete. The extent of the bounce is the real question.
