Hi, I am going through foreclosure right now. The property was acquired while I was still married to my ex husband, however, my name is the only name on the loans. I am in a serious relationship right now with the possibility of marriage in the future. But my boyfriend is scared to get married because he fears that because they will try to come after me for money or property, and that it will become his debt as well and he fears that they will try to take HIS personal property and money since we would be married (even though he has nothing to do with the situation at all at the time it was purchased and foreclosed on). If we got married, would they try to go after him as well or would they still consider this my issue only and only come after me?

Any judgments as a result of the foreclosure would be against you alone and not your boyfriend. If the two of you get married then you must make sure that you do not mingle your assets with him--no joint bank accounts. If the two of you decide to buy property then only his name should be on the title until the judgments against you are resolved.

As long as your assets are not mingled with his then your creditors cannot attach his property or assets.

Thank you---that does clear up the confusion.
