Hi, My name is Gabe and I just turned 17 in July. I just received my GED diploma this week after waiting months for it. During that time, I was simply procrastinating my future, and enjoying my teen years. Now that my diploma is in, and Im ready for college, yet Im not sure what to study.

My parents always encouraged me to further my education. That's why I have this self excpectance to go to college. The problem is though, I don't know if following my passion will be the right choice.

My passion has always been Music. I never go a day without it. I even listen to the same cd over-and-over for days, or even weeks! Just this year, I started getting more into Music production, and DJ'ing. I love everything about it. I've always dreamed of having the fame these famous DJ's and producers worked so hard to get.So I decided, maybe this can be the career field that I'll make my own. I started doing research on production schools, and came upon "Full Sail University". I fell in love with it right away. I've been planning on attending the Universty to work my way up to achieving my Masters in Entertainment Business. Now, coming to the moment of truth. I started getting second thoughts and instead of being optimistic, I was now pessimistic.

Starting now to doubt my future success in the Music Business. I decided to take a more pratical approach, and take a career test. I took the career test, paid $40, and awaited for some enlightenment. It turned out being, that Business and Administration wasn't one of my strongest categories. Health care and Science both seemed to be my strongest categories. The career test then gave me a list of careers that seem to fit my Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities the best. After narrowing down the list I was left with Biomedical Engineer, and Nuclear Engineer. Probably the main reason why I decided on those two was because of the salary.

After further research, I decided, my best bet is to study Biomedical Engineering. Not only because of its good pay, but because it's a growing career, and constantly in demand. My parents are excited for me, yet I feel dissapointed. I love music, and wish I can make it my living, but its really difficult to find open jobs in the field. This is where I'm torn between two worlds. Sometimes I think, Im just doing this for my parents, and not really for myself. My parents don't have high excpectations for me, seeing that my sister isn't in any better position.

The point really to this question is, should I follow my dreams? Or go the "Realistic" route and abandon my life long dream. (I can't believe I shed a tear thinking about this)
:(
Thanks for reading!

You are not working if you love what you are doing and successful all love their jobs.

If you want to pursue music, luck, talent and guts has to be altogether. For some reason, no matter how talented and hardworking you are, if there's no such as x-factor and mass appeal, you won't make it... long. So what do think of yourself?

That's why Im asking this question. I know that I'll be very content working with music related business, but as you stated, it takes luck, talent, and guts. Its not guaranteed that there will be openings in the field. That's why Im not sure if I should go with it. I want to enjoy my teen years while I still have them. I know that If I take Biomedical Engineering, it will be very time consuming. I can't see myself enjoying the young Miami lifestyle, if I take Biomed.
